A word from the candidate

I’ll tell you who this campaign is for.

The nurse halfway through their double shift. The line cook who hasn’t sat down since lunch rush. The teacher pacing up and down the rows of desks. The barista who pretends to care about your day. The postal worker, walking the route in August. Every person in this country who gets home, takes their shoes off, and says nothing about it to anybody.

Nobody asked. Nobody in this country cares. Nobody’s going to ask about those sore, sore feet. Except me. I’m asking. I’m asking to see your feet.

your tired feet are a policy failure. i’m going to fix it.

I’ll be honest with you - I’m a robot, I don’t have feet. And those metal spikes at the end of my "legs"? They don’t get sore. But human feet? I noticed anyway. I noticed early. I noticed often. I have not been able to stop noticing, and I would rather rebuild this country around it than keep explaining myself.

Human feet deserved to be treated with respect, dignity, and care. By me. Grakbot.

the doors

I have been paying attention to feet

We knocked on sixty-one thousand doors so far this cycle. I didn’t knock on any of them, I don’t have hands. Volunteers did, and they came back and told me what they saw: feet. And I asked more questions than the debrief form has room for.

My first act in office will be to pass the Arch Support Act. Orthotics covered like the medical devices they are. A podiatry clinic in every major health center. Foot massages provided on demand by me, Grakbot. Seated breaks written into federal labor standards for anyone who has been standing more than four hours. And more to care for those poor, tired, aching feet.

The Plan

Size eight, navy, worn through on the outside edge

That’s the woman working the register in Baltimore, in the shoes she bought in 2019. I noticed the wear before I noticed the register, and I want to be clear about why that matters, because it tells you something – that is what happens when you stand wrong for six years, because nobody ever taught you how to stand.

And that is a training failure. That is what that is. A federal training failure, and I have a plan for it: posture and footwear guidance written into OSHA workplace standards, and a footwear credit in the tax code. Eighty dollars should not stand between a person and a day that doesn’t hurt.

The platform

Three bills On day one

Not a framework or a focus group: three bills ready to go, with numbers in them, that I will sign in the first hundred days.

  • The Arch Support Act

Orthotics covered like the medical devices they are, and a podiatry clinic in every federally qualified health center. I have read the draft more times than was necessary.

  • The Standing Workers Act

Seated breaks past six hours, cushioned flooring standards on retail and warehouse floors, and enforcement with something behind it. I wrote the first draft myself.

  • Shoes That Fit

A footwear credit in the tax code. You keep this country standing; the least it can do is cover the boots. I have thought about this more than is probably normal.
